Heaven is for Real
From the writing desk of Christine MazurkI had some computer issues this morning. Ugh! So I'm going to focus on a fascinating story I read not too long ago.
Did any of you read the book Heaven is for Real? Or see the movie?
It's based on a true story about a father who has to step out of his comfort zone and share his son's incredible life-changing story with the world. Todd Burpo, played by Greg Kinnear in the movie, doesn't believe at first, but when his son Colton begins talking about things that happened before he was born, how could he ignore the truth?
Colton says he met Pop, Todd's father. But how could that be? Colton was born in May of 1999, Todd's father, who they did call Pop died in a car accident in July of 1976.
Colton's journey began in early 2003, when he complained of stomach pain. He had a fever and was diagnosed with a stomach flu. The next day, his fever broke, and the family believed all was well. Not so. A few days later, Colton began vomiting uncontrollably.
After a misdiagnosis in one hospital, Colton was taken to another hospital where he underwent surgery, an appendectomy. Not only had his appendix ruptured, he had an abscess. Prior to his release from the hospital, the doctor ordered a CT scan and more abscesses were found. Another surgery was done to drain the abscesses, while everyone prayed for his recovery.
After seventeen terrible days, Colton was finally released, and the family returned home. It wasn't until months later that Colton began sharing his stories about heaven.
He spoke of meeting Jesus and his horse. Of spending time with Pop, meeting a sister who never made it out of his mother's tummy, and the animals he saw, which included dogs, cats, birds, and a lion, who was friendly not fierce. He told his parents what they were doing while he was in surgery. Mind blowing because they were in two different rooms. How could you not believe?
If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, I suggest you do. Even if you're not a believer, it is a fascinating - how do you explain that - story!
Just think about it; what would you do if your three year old son announced he went to heaven?
Until next time, Christine
